This space had its beginnings in the early 20th Century combining a recreational and educational alternative with the caring for the city’s natural settings and native species. Today, after undergoing its 1972 expansion, it has become one of the country’s epicenters for conservation, research, and environmental advocacy. That scientific, educational, and cultural commitment to the environment has materialized with the presence of over 1000 species of flora and fauna. An ample catalog of unique biodiversity and sustainable mana-gement is showcased in its tropical forests and desert ecosystems, medicinal and edible plants, shrubs, planting models, ferns, orchids, and butterflies among other elements.
