Theatre Guide

There are over 17 theatres for the dramatic and performing arts in the city, home to some 50 theatre companies, all with ample recognition at the local and national levels. The different aesthetics and trends offered make attendance to any of the performances a must for any visitor to the city.

Some theatre companies are housed in beautiful old mansions considered architectural heritage sites and located in areas of high tourist influx, like the Prado neighborhood or downtown Medellín. Most locales offer the added convenience of coffeehouses where the visitor can enjoy a casual encounter or conversation amid cultural environs.

Plays and performances are scheduled throughout the year for young and old. In addition under the “Open Theatres” program sponsored by the Mayor's Office, there is free admission to all shows on the last Wednesday of every month.
