Madre Laura Ethnographic

Collections of significant value are held by Medellín's most prestigious museums and institutions. These collections are preserved and exhibited at these venues for the enjoyment and education of locals and visitors alike. History, music, painting, photography, sculpture, ethnography, natural science, minerals, technology, and numismatics all have a special place in the museums of Medellín, offering an alternative for the tourist to delve deeper into other cultural aspects of our region.

Some of these museums are housed in constructions of great architectural and heritage value, offering the tourist an additional reason to include them in his/her schedule of activities.


Museum Network of Antioquia

This entity integrates and interconnects the various museums in the Province. It represents the sector before the government and society. The Network takes part in discussions to formulate public policies. It works toward the strengthening of management, finances, and the divulging of collections at every museum. It works to obtain and generate opportunities for institutional, social, and cultural development.


Historical Archive of Antioquia

The Historical Archive safeguards, organizes, and construes documentation with historical value. Documents that have been put forth by agencies of the administration and government of the region of Antioquia, from Spanish rule to 1970, are available to the public. This cultural heritage has been enriched through other documented corpus obtained from the Santa Fe de Antioquia City Council, the Scribes of Medellín, a photographic archive, and a Graphic and Cartographic Collection.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM


Pilot Public Library for Latin America

A top level reference source of culture for the region and the entire country, the Library, has been a place of encounter for academia, intellectuals, and the people of Medellín. Renown writers, like Carlos Castro Saavedra, Manuel Mejía Vallejo, Nadaista poet Jaime Jaramillo Escobar – X504 – have had close ties with this Library, a home for arts and literature. The Library holds one of the largest original photographic archives in Latin America. Some photographic glass plates dating from 1849 are safeguarded at The Tower of Memory, an edifice specially built for such an end. The Library offers a general books area, book lending, daily newspapers area, audiovisuals, art room, auditorium, and restaurant and cafeteria service.

Casa Gardeliana

This Historic Cultural Monument has been divulging the history and culture of Tango since 1995. The Casa holds important document, audio, photography, and audiovisual collections. Some commemorative plaques witness the visit of renown political, entertainment, and literary figures. One such plaque was dedicated on occasion of Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges's visit to the Casa.

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon, 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM



Maestro Pedro Nel Gómez House Museum

In what used to be his house and art studio it is now possible to appreciate the artistic legacy of Master Artist, Pedro Nel Gómez, one of Latin America's best known Fine Artists. A legacy of more than 1,500 works which include murals, sculptures, architectural designs, etchings, oil and water paintings can be seen at this site. Master Gómez, who, as an Urban planner, designed the Laureles neighborhood in Medellín, created a library dedicated to art in all its forms. His murals, which are almost entirely found in public places, depict the traditions of the people of Antioquia as well as important events in Colombian history.
