El Poblado is a zone I recommend blindly, but I must also warn you — it’s the most expensive area. There are other areas like Laureles or La 70, where you can find very good hotels at better prices.

El Poblado is the district located in the southeastern part of the city. Here you’ll find Medellín’s business epicenter: the main shopping malls, the largest hotel chains, the nightlife, and the best restaurants.
However, what almost no guide tells you is that El Poblado is a very large and mountainous district, composed of several sub-sectors. Depending on what you want, choosing one sector over another can make your stay in Medellín much more comfortable.
Here I’ll tell you about the best places within El Poblado to stay.
Milla de Oro (Golden Mile)
This is a hotel area located on Avenida El Poblado, between the Santa Fe Shopping Mall and the Dann Carlton hotel. A kilometer surrounded by tall corporate buildings and renowned national and international hotel chains.
In my opinion, this is the best area to stay in Medellín whether traveling for business or leisure. The reason is that the Golden Mile is a very safe, very modern sector, easy to walk around, and very close to shopping malls, restaurants, and famous nightlife areas like Parque Lleras, Parque El Poblado, and Provenza.
If you’re the type of person who loves going out at night to lively areas but then returning to rest in a quiet neighborhood, this area is for you.
Parque Lleras and Provenza
If you sleep late and go out at night, staying near Parque Lleras and Provenza is an excellent option. Note that I emphasize “near” because Parque Lleras is on a very specific street full of bars and nightclubs where I wouldn’t recommend actually staying.
A couple of blocks away you’ll find many accommodation options — from luxurious hotels with spectacular city views (like Hotel Diez, Hotel Haven, or The Charlee) to hostels like Malaika and Selina.
Before you book in this sector, a word of warning: if you’re very sensitive about your sleep, avoid this area, as many accommodations may be exposed to street noise from nearby businesses.

Parque El Poblado
Parque El Poblado is a 10-minute walk from Parque Lleras. It’s a slightly less crowded area, but it has become popular because some of the coolest hostels in the city are located here. Plus, if you need a place to work, there’s a WeWork just a few steps away.
Accommodations in Parque El Poblado are as good quality as those in Lleras, but slightly more affordable. You’ll also find some great dining options nearby, though not as many as in Lleras.
Manila
Manila is a magical and hidden corner of El Poblado, located right behind two of the most important streets in this neighborhood (Calle 10 and Avenida El Poblado). This sector has a wonderful mix of hotels, nightlife with bars, restaurants, rooftops, and old local homes.
While it has become very popular among tourists, it’s characterized as a much quieter neighborhood than Lleras or Provenza, yet with the same cosmopolitan touch that is El Poblado’s trademark.
Ciudad del Río
If you want a more “local” vibe during your stay, Ciudad del Río is an excellent option within El Poblado. You’ll need to take a short taxi ride to reach Lleras or Provenza, but it’s not a problem.
What makes this area special is that it’s a very residential sector with parks where you’ll see families and pets, and you can appreciate the everyday life of Medellín.

Laureles is one of Medellín’s most traditional neighborhoods. The wealthy families of the city settled here in the 70s and 80s. Although it’s no longer the most exclusive sector, it still maintains that elegant air of large homes, imposing trees, and unbeatable commercial offerings.
With the wave of tourists arriving in Medellín, Laureles has become one of the ideal areas for local entertainment. You’ll be near Avenida Jardín, a street packed with high-quality bars and restaurants, some local designer stores, and a couple of shopping malls.
If you’re looking for nightlife, you’ll also be just steps from Calle 70, a street full of bars and nightclubs where the music is less “internationalized” and much more based on local rhythms that locals enjoy: salsa, vallenato, reggaeton, and popular music.

To close our ranking, I’ll recommend a completely different place: the township of Santa Elena, the largest rural area of Medellín, composed of dozens of kilometers of forest, local farms, and natural attractions.
If this is your first time in Medellín, it’s definitely not worth spending your entire stay here. But if you’re a nature lover, one or two nights in Santa Elena will delight you.
