The 5 Best Rooftops in Medellín: Food, Drinks & Great Views

Recently, a great variety of rooftops has appeared in Medellín, where besides appreciating its mountains, sunny days, or the twinkling lights of its neighborhoods at night, you can enjoy great music, cocktails, and food.

Medellín is naturally a city of mountains, where you can witness spectacular views. But most of the city’s rooftops are found in the El Poblado neighborhood — for two main reasons: first, because the neighborhood is located in a mountainous area with privileged views of the entire city, and second, because the tallest buildings, where hotels and offices are located, are also here.

Palma Pitón

Our first spot is the new rooftop of the The Somos Manila hotel. Inspired by the legend of the python climbing a palm tree until merging with it, this place has been a sensation for its groundbreaking concept of bringing the Amazon jungle to the top of the city.

Besides the spectacular outward view, when you go up there you’ll feel like you’re diving into a “bistrópico”. That means all the influence of the Amazon is reflected in its menu, with delicious gourmet drinks and dishes, in an atmosphere as fresh as the ingredients they use.

The unconventional architecture and level of design put into every detail make Palma Pitón’s atmosphere captivating at any hour. Especially at night, it becomes a quite romantic spot, ideal for very special occasions.

Masaya Rooftop

Masaya is a hotel located two blocks from Parque El Poblado. On the eighth floor, there’s an incredible terrace with 360-degree views of the entire city. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, you can access this place without any problem and generally without paying an entrance fee.

One of the most attractive things about this rooftop is that you have a clear landscape where you can appreciate both the buildings of El Poblado and the entire western area of the city. You can enjoy many spaces — lounge nets, benches, a swimming pool, and a bar that can make any cocktail you want.

If you like a festive, relaxed atmosphere without many pretensions, as well as enjoying drinks, fast food, and meeting people from all over the world, you have to go to this rooftop.

María la Baja

If you’re looking for a rooftop with a more premium gastronomic experience, María la Baja is a gastrobar you must visit. Located in the Manila sector of El Poblado, it’s a tribute to Colombian Caribbean cuisine.

What I love about this place is that, despite being right on Calle 10a (one of the busiest in El Poblado), its decoration and the fact that it’s surrounded by a small forest completely isolates you from the hectic city atmosphere.

360Rooftop

If you want to party and see the city from the highest point, this rooftop on the 11th floor of the Hotel Haven (in the Provenza area) might be one of the best. On weekends there are special parties with guest DJs and surprise shows. Unlike other similar places, the service is generally quite good.

Although this is a place mainly recommended for a night of partying, you can also enjoy a very extensive menu with all types of food (snacks, ceviches, pizza, pasta, grilled items, etc.). Average plate price is around $40,000 COP and cocktails around $50,000 COP.

Los Rooftops by Los Patios

Also in the Manila area, there’s a spot with a very relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re on a small island in the heart of Medellín. It’s on the top floor of the Los Patios hotel, a Tiki-style bar inspired by Southeast Asian islands, with a tropical atmosphere and a cocktail menu based on complex and delicious fruit combinations.
